STAB Explained
Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) increases a move's power by 1.5× when the attacking Pokémon shares the move's type. Combined with a type advantage, a STAB super-effective hit deals 3× normal damage.
Example: A Water-type Pokémon using a Water-type move against a Ground/Rock-type defender deals 1.5 × 2 × 2 = 6× normal damage.
Common Coverage Mistakes
| Mistake | Why It Hurts |
|---|---|
| Too many moves of the same type | Wastes move slots and leaves gaps against resists. |
| No answer to Steel | Steel resists 11 types. Fire, Fighting, or Ground are needed. |
| No answer to Flying | Common offensive type. Rock, Electric, or Ice covers it. |
| No neutral option | Every slot being coverage-only risks wasting PP and low power. |
| Too many low-power coverage moves | Low base power coverage often fails to secure KOs even with advantage. |
