Status & Field Effects
Burn
Status Condition
Halves the afflicted Pokémon's physical Attack stat. Deals 1/16 of max HP as damage at the end of each turn. Fire-type Pokémon cannot be burned.
Paralysis
Status Condition
Reduces Speed by 50%. There is a 25% chance the afflicted Pokémon is unable to act each turn. Electric-type Pokémon cannot be paralyzed.
Poison
Status Condition
Deals 1/8 of max HP as damage at the end of each turn. Poison-type and Steel-type Pokémon cannot be poisoned.
Bad Poison (Toxic)
Status Condition
Damage starts at 1/16 of max HP and increases by 1/16 each turn, up to a maximum of 1/2 per turn. Counter resets on switching out (in most formats).
Sleep
Status Condition
The afflicted Pokémon is unable to act for 1–3 turns (duration determined randomly at infliction in Gen 5+). Sleep Talk and Snore can be used while asleep.
Freeze
Status Condition
The afflicted Pokémon cannot act. There is a 20% chance to thaw at the end of each turn. Receiving a Fire-type move also thaws the Pokémon. Ice-type Pokémon cannot be frozen.
Stealth Rock
Entry Hazard
Deals Rock-type damage to any Pokémon that switches in, scaled by type effectiveness. Neutral = 12.5% HP. 4× weak = 50% HP. 4× resist or immune = 3.1% HP. One layer maximum.
Spikes
Entry Hazard
Damages grounded Pokémon on switch-in. 1 layer = 1/8 HP, 2 layers = 1/6 HP, 3 layers = 1/4 HP. Flying-type Pokémon and those with Levitate are unaffected.
Toxic Spikes
Entry Hazard
1 layer inflicts regular Poison; 2 layers inflict Bad Poison (Toxic). Poison-type Pokémon that switch in absorb the layers, removing the hazard. Flying-types and levitating Pokémon are unaffected.
Sticky Web
Entry Hazard
Lowers the Speed of any grounded Pokémon that switches in by 1 stage. One layer maximum. Does not affect Flying-type Pokémon or those with Levitate.
Rain
Weather
Water-type moves deal 1.5× damage. Fire-type moves deal 0.5× damage. Thunder has 100% accuracy. Lasts 5 turns (8 with Damp Rock). Set by Drizzle or Rain Dance.
Sun
Weather
Fire-type moves deal 1.5× damage. Water-type moves deal 0.5× damage. SolarBeam requires no charge turn. Lasts 5 turns (8 with Heat Rock). Set by Drought or Sunny Day.
Sandstorm
Weather
Deals 1/16 max HP damage per turn to all Pokémon not Rock, Steel, or Ground type. Rock-type Pokémon receive a 1.5× boost to Special Defense. Lasts 5 turns (8 with Smooth Rock).
Snow
Weather (Gen 9+)
Replaces Hail from Generation 9 onwards. Ice-type Pokémon receive a 1.5× boost to Defense. No end-of-turn chip damage. Lasts 5 turns (8 with Icy Rock). Set by Snow Warning or Snowscape.
Reflect
Screen
Halves physical damage taken by the user's side for 5 turns (8 turns with Light Clay). Does not reduce damage from critical hits or moves that ignore screens (e.g., Psyshock reads Defense, not Reflect).
Light Screen
Screen
Halves special damage taken by the user's side for 5 turns (8 turns with Light Clay). Does not reduce damage from critical hits.
Aurora Veil
Screen
Halves both physical and special damage taken by the user's side for 5 turns (8 with Light Clay). Can only be used during Snow. Does not reduce critical hit damage.
